Here are our absolute favorites when it comes to the lakes in Bad Kleinkirchheim.

The Wörthersee

We continue with the largest lake in Carinthia: Lake Wörthersee. It covers 19.39 km² and is also one of the warmest alpine lakes in the area. Surrounded by the gentle mountains of the Alps, the backdrop of the lake enchants visitors year after year. For this reason, you can expect the lake to be very busy. Nevertheless, it is definitely worth a visit because you can enjoy action-packed water sports activities there, such as water skiing or wakeboarding across the glistening surface of the water. You can conquer Lake Wörthersee on a sailing or motorboat or explore the water on the calmer option, the SUP board. Incidentally, most lakes in Bad Kleinkirchheim offer these options. The surrounding nature invites you to take a bike ride or a walk. It takes around 50 minutes by car from our hotel to Lake Wörthersee.

Lake Millstätter See

At 141 meters, Lake Millstatt is the deepest lake in Carinthia and offers plenty of room for exploration, and not just for divers. Nestled in the Alps, it is the ideal starting point for hikes, mountain bike tours or climbing tours in the Nockberge mountains. A cycle path runs along the northern shore, offering wonderful views over Lake Millstatt. There are of course also various water sports activities - from stand-up paddling and wakeboarding to canoeing, pedal boating, water skiing, sailing and surfing. The 11 lidos and 3 diving stations as well as numerous boat rentals invite you to enjoy a varied water experience, and you can also explore the beautiful, unspoiled southern shore. If you are looking for relaxation, why not visit the Badehaus Kärnten in Millstatt? Numerous saunas, a heated outdoor pool and private access to the lake await you here. From our hotel in Bad Kleinkirchheim, you can be at Lake Millstatt in just 20 minutes.

Lake Ossiach

Alternatively, you can also visit Lake Ossiach, which is around 39 minutes' drive from Bad Kleinkirchheim. Both young and old will have a lot of fun here, as Lake Ossiach is a true natural playground. You can get your adrenaline pumping with a paragliding flight directly over the beautiful Lake Ossiach.

Field by the lake

If you like it quieter and smaller, Feld am See is certainly the right destination. After just 15 minutes, you can reach the small community and its beautifully landscaped bathing lake. A great spectacle takes place here every year in July: Carinthia's biggest fish festival is celebrated! You can try your way through tasty, unique fish dishes and enjoy the exuberant atmosphere of the festival.

Lake Afritz

Finally, here is our absolute insider tip for an unforgettable swimming experience in Bad Kleinkirchheim. Lake Afritz is just 19 minutes away from our accommodation in Bad Kleinkirchheim and is definitely not as crowded as Lake Millstatt or Lake Wörthersee. The natural bathing lake is harmoniously nestled between wooded slopes and delights visitors with its tranquillity and idyllic setting. Fishermen can catch everything from trout and pike to eels and arctic char here. With toilet facilities, restaurants in the area and parking spaces, the smaller lake is in no way inferior to the other lakes in Bad Kleinkirchheim.

And if the weather doesn't play along, you can simply visit the St. Kathrein thermal spa in the village itself for extensive water fun or treat yourself to a few hours of pure relaxation in the Thermal Römerbad. Both baths are just a stone's throw away from our hotel and guarantee bathing fun for the whole family! So your next summer in the mountains of Austria will be more than varied!
