• Gosauschmied Winter hiking trail: This easy, approximately 4 km long trail starts at the Gosauschmied restaurant and leads through the forest along the reservoir. This trail is ideal for families and takes approx. 1 hour.
• Winter Hiking Trail Hornspitz This tour starts at Pass Gschütt Straße and then takes you up to the mountain station of the Hornspitz Express I. The almost two-hour tour offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Dachstein and surrounding mountains. From the mountain station, you can take the cabin car to the valley and then use the ski bus to return to the hotel.

For all who want to see even more of the unspoilt nature, snowshoeing in the Dachstein region is highly recommended and an incomparable leisure activity. Snowshoeing in Upper Austria is a special treat, where you can not only find peace and quiet, but also discover new perspectives on the Austrian Alps. Ideal for an active holiday and a great way to add variety to a winter holiday without skiing.

Guided snowshoe hikes are a highlight in Gosau, where experienced guides show you the best places and the hidden beauties of this region. If you want to go on a tour by yourself: At the Checkpoint Sportshop, located directly at the COOEE alpin Hotel Dachstein, you can rent a wide range of equipment, including snowshoes.

• Dachsteinblick snowshoe trail (circular trail): For winter fun away from the ski slopes, there is a snowshoe hike starting at the Zwieselalm. The marked circular trail starts at the Panorama Jet Zwieselalm mountain station and leads up to a small hill where you can get an incomparable view of the Dachstein glacier. Several mountain cabins along the route offer you cosy spots to take a break.

Tobogganing in Gosau and the surrounding area: winter fun for the whole family

The Dachstein region offers numerous winter activities that make for an unforgettable winter holiday in the snow. Families in particular will find the perfect conditions here to enjoy their winter holidays to the fullest – such as on the toboggan run in Gosau!

The popular Rabenkogel natural toboggan run is 1.26 km long and offers fast-paced tobogganing fun through snow-covered forests with a height difference of 200 metres. The 20-minute ascent is well worth it, as spectacular views of the surrounding mountains await you at the start of the toboggan run. You can pick up your free toboggan from the parking area and off you go!

Gosau Mountain Christmas – Experience Advent in the Salzkammergut

Get into the Christmas spirit and visit the Gosau Mountain Christmas! This traditional Christmas market in the heart of the Salzkammergut invites you to enjoy an atmospheric start to Advent. Located at the foot of the imposing Gosaukamm, exhibitors present traditional crafts and regional cuisine. The Christmas market extends across the open-air museum, the Heimathaus, stable and barn. Enjoy the atmosphere of snow-covered Gosau and pick up some great gift ideas for Christmas. There is also a varied programme for children, including a Christmas workshop and horse-drawn sleigh rides through the Gosau valley. A highlight is the traditional lantern walk through the mystical winter forest, which delights both children and adults. The Gosau Mountain Christmas takes place on the first two weekends of Advent and is an unrivalled Christmas experience in the Dachstein Salzkammergut region.

Cross-country skiing and ski touring – your active holiday in the snow

Many of our guests continue to praise the cross-country skiing paradise of Gosau long after their visit – and often come back to us at COOEE alpin Hotel Dachstein for this reason. It’s just a hundred metres from the hotel to the entry of the cross-country ski run – can it get any better? Cross-country skiing is a uniquely natural sport and one of the healthiest ways to promote blood circulation. Gosau offers a number of cross-country routes – 50 km classic and 15 kilometres skating, including a beginners’ trail. Skating is cross-country skiing in its most original form and is experiencing a real revival. In Gosau you’ll find the charming 4 km Spreißler Skating trail stretching through the enchanting Gosau valley. The beginners’ trail is located right next to the hotel – here you can practise over 300 metres and get a taste of cross-country skiing. The Dorfloipe is particularly popular, running for almost 15 kilometres through the Gosau Valley and offering breathtaking views of the Dachstein mountains. Everyone who prefers a shorter route can go on the Kohlstattloipe, an easy and family-friendly route along the Gosau river. The trails are groomed daily and are free of charge.

Ski tours are also a great way to explore nature in the Dachstein West region. For example, the ski tour to the Hornspitz starts directly in Gosau. It begins in the church district of Gosau and takes you over the Kalvarienberg up to the Hornspitz. From there, you can return to the valley via the slope and take the ski bus back to the hotel. Alternatively, the Atomic ski tour in Rußbach is also recommended. It is 3.6 kilometers long and you have to overcome 630 meters in altitude. The approximately one and a half hour tour is also suitable for ambitious beginners. Adults and children can rent the equipment for the tour at the Atomic Touring Experience Center and test it on site.

Cultural day trips – Hallstatt and Bad Ischl in the snow

The Salzkammergut, known for its picturesque landscapes and historic towns, offers numerous cultural highlights in winter. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hallstatt or the European Capital of Culture 2024 Bad Ischl.

Hallstatt, the idyllic village on Lake Hallstatt, is transformed into a true winter wonderland. Visit the imperial villa or the Bad Ischl town museum, which offers insights into the history of the region. A walk through the snow-covered Kurpark or a stop at the famous Zauner bakery completes your day trip.
